The 2020 induction ceremony has been postponed due to health concerns over Coronavirus. We intend to conduct the ceremony during the last quarter of 2020 on date yet to be determined.
There is an induction ceremony held to recognize Michigan’s most distinguished service members. Individuals are provided a ceremony program booklet as they enter the auditorium to attend the free one-hour ceremony conducted on the second Friday of May annually during Armed Forces Week. The ceremony is patterned after traditional military ceremonies that antedate the Christian era, with shared victories, camaraderie, customs and traditions. The special occasion marks the official recognition of veteran's distinguished service in the United States Armed Forces for the six military category inductees, and the extraordinary community service of the six veteran’s category inductees. The dignitaries invited to preside include the governor, Michigan National Guard Adjutant General, U.S. Senators and the Chair for the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor Board of Directors. There are inductee and sponsor banners that are on display for viewing, with picture opportunities for the media, visitors, inductees and families. Inductees and or their surviving families are presented the specially designed MMVHOH Medal; a state of Michigan framed tribute signed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, a state Senator and a state Representative; with congratulatory letters from the Michigan U.S. Senators, Secretary of Defense and the head of the inductees service branch. Inductee banners are on display within museums throughout the state of Michigan.
The Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor seeks to not only honor Michigan military veterans, but to also educate our citizens about military service as a basic and honorable duty of citizenship--to stir patriotic spirit, a sense of civic duty, and a sense of honor that calls people to arms.
