Eric Fretz, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, served in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Dr. Fretz was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, two Joint Service Achievement Medals and two Navy Achievement Medals, with deployments for the Persian Gulf War, Persian Gulf combat zone in 2005 and to Iraq in 2008. His qualifications include the Fleet and Special Evolutions OOD, Gas Turbine EOOW, Master Training Specialist, Pistol Sharpshooter and Rifle Marksman. Dr. Fretz has also completed a second bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Education from Southern Illinois University, with a focus on Instructional Technology. He completed a master’s Degree in Psychology (2002) and a dual PhD in Psychology and Education (2010) at the University of Michigan. Eric currently lectures at the University of Michigan in the Psychology Department, the School of Education, and the College of Engineering. Fretz co-owns and co-manages two medical practices, Chair of the Region 9 Veterans Community Action Team, Student Veterans of America UM chapter as Faculty Mentor, Founder and President of two Veteran-helping nonprofit charities (501c3) and is an American Red Cross Instructor. He obtained the Eagle Scout Rank and serves the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Leader and District Volunteer.
