Major (Retired) Laverne Santangelo retired on September 30, 2009 from the Michigan Army National Guard after 23yrs of honorable service. Her last duty position was Staff General Assistant the Chief of Staff of the 46th Military Police Command located in Lansing, Michigan.

Major (Retired) Laverne Santangelo entered the ROTC program at Northern Michigan University in 1987. She was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Signal Officer on April 29, 1989. Major Santangelo graduated with a Bachelor’s Science Degree in Mass Communications from Northern University in 1989.


She has held various duty positions during her 20 years of service. She is most proud of the duty positions she held when she called to Federal Service. The positions are the following: Communication Officer, 210th Military Police Battalion, Operation Joint Endeavor, Germany, December 1995-August 1996, Detachment Commander, 210th Military Police Battalion, Battlefield Circulation Officer, 210th Military Police Battalion, Operation Noble Eagle, Logistics Officer S4, 210th Military Police Battalion, Operation Noble Eagle, Washington DC, September 1, 2002-May 5, 2003 and Personnel Officer S1, 177th Rear Detachment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, July, 2003-2004.

Major (Retired) Laverne Santangelo has attended the following military schools: Signal Officer Basic Course, Fort Gordon, GA, Military Police Officer Advance Course, Fort McCllean, AL, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Fort McCoy, WI and Commander’s and First Sergeant’s Course.

Her Awards include the following: Army Commendation medal(with 1 Oak Leave), Army Reserve Component Achievement Award(with 1 Oak Leave), National Defense Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with M Device and Hour Glass) Army Service Ribbon, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Michigan Legion of Merit Award and Army Superior Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism, Meritorious Service Medal.

Currently, Laverne is the owner of Laverne Santangelo, LLC a private practice that provides mental health counseling, yoga and consulting services to various business and mental health agencies in the community. Laverne serves and volunteers on several veteran committees.She resides in Shelby Township, MI with her husband Jim of over 30yrs and their two adult sons James and Cameron
