Ryan Freeland

Dr. Ryan Freeland, of Portage, Michigan, separated from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 16 years of honorable service in the Medical Corps. As a Flight Surgeon he served in Special Operations and with the US Air Forces in Europe. During the Global War on Terrorism, he deployed in support of both combat and humanitarian operations to various locations including Afghanistan, Iraq, the Arabian Peninsula, Europe, Central America, and South America. After completing his dermatology residency, Dr. Freeland served as the Chief of Dermatology at Andrews Air Force Base and finished his career on teaching faculty at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Medals, two Aerial Achievement Medals, one Joint Service Commendation Medal, seven Air Force Commendation Medals, an Air Force Achievement Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Recognition Ribbon for being named “Flight Surgeon of the Year” in 2006 by the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Freeland earned a B.S. in biology as well as Biblical and Theological Studies from Wheaton College in Illinois, and his Medical Degree from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency with the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. Dr. Freeland is honored to care for Veterans at his medical practice and remains focused on supporting Warfighters, especially Flyers.

Dr. Freeland is the founder and owner of Wolverine Dermatology in Wyoming, Michigan. He is an avid road cyclist and active in his local church. He now lives in Grand Rapids.
